Penny9 (being fostered in Connecticut)

Overview

Meet Penny, an adorable 5-year-old, 12-pound longhaired black, gray, and tan dachshund. Penny came to Little Paws as an owner surrender after her elderly owner had to transition into a nursing home. She is a true love bug who wants nothing more than to be held, snuggled in your lap, or right by your side no matter what you are doing.

Environment

Penny has a medium energy level, loves going on walks, and is great on a leash. She sleeps wonderfully in a crate at night, but prefers to be free-range in the house during the day with supervision and regular potty breaks. Because she is generally quiet and not overly vocal, she is suitable for living arrangements with shared walls like apartments or townhomes.

Pets & People

Penny loves other dogs and does wonderfully with resident dogs, even those much larger than she is. With people, she loves company but takes a minute to warm up to strangers and needs a little reassurance that they are okay. Her experience with children is uncertain, so an adult-only home or one with older children is preferred. She is gentle around food and treats, though she may try to sneak or steal food if she thinks she can get away with it! She should be fed separately from other dogs in the home.

Health

& Special Needs

Penny has some separation anxiety and will often have accidents or circle when left alone or confined, which appears to be a habit from spending most of her time in a crate or pen in the past. Her foster is actively working on her potty training and trying out pee pads, and this will be a work in progress for her adopter. She has been in the car twice while being held, remaining quiet and well-behaved, so she should do fine with travel.
